Rocky, unyielding soils. Fierce, relentless wind. Sun-drenched, towering mountains. This is British Columbia's rugged Similkameen Valley. Boundary Spring is a single vineyard red blend, led by Cabernet Sauvignon, that delivers the wild beauty of the valley to your glass.

VARIETIES

35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 18% Merlot, 12% Malbec, and 5% Syrah

SUB-REGION

Similkameen Valley

The Similkameen's contrasting weather and rugged terrain create an ideal growing environment for Bordeaux reds. The intense sun ensures full phenolic ripeness, while the cool nights preserve acidity, yielding wines with remarkable balance and structure.

SOIL

Similkameen silt loam with gravel and stones

The high silt content retains moisture, while gravel and stones enhance drainage. This combination fosters even ripening and highly concentrated fruit.

ELEVATION

385-425m

The elevated exposure allows for slower, more even phenolic ripening, leading to well-developed tannins, and rich colour.

Soren is a virtual label by Okanagan-based Master of Wine Geoff Moss. It is made at Winemakers Cut at the Dsitrict Wine Village in Oliver, with this Boundary Spring red being a blend from the Similkameen Valley. The main appeal here is intense fruit and flavours set in an elegant, juicy frame. Very lifted, quite mature aromas include raspberry-pomegranate, sage, graphite and fine oak. Very well integrated and pronounced, with a sleek yet juicy palate. The length is excellent. Impressive. Tasted April 2025

Boundary Spring could refer to a place where a fresh spring is situated at a boundary or conversely where the wind blows hard and nature is in charge. Such a place is Boundary Springs Trail in southern Oregon’s Crater Lake National Park. Or a B.C. equivalent like the Similkameen Valley where vines are subject to harsh elements and vines must dig deep through rocky soils. In any case this pentangle blend of 35 percent cabernet sauvignon, (30) cabernet franc, (18) merlot, (12) malbec and (5) syrah feels like it comes from adversarial consequences, what with its exotic perfume, rubbery reduction and grip your palate intensity. The wood seasons but also provides the smoulder and acidity lifts, then lifts some more. Give this some much needed settling time. It will come out right. Thus far in their short tenure all of Soren's wines have come out right. Drink 2026-2031. Tasted April 2025.

A cabernet sauvignon-led blend from the rugged Similkameen Valley just off the southern end of the Okanagan Valley, this 2022, made by master of wine Geoffrey Moss, pours a deep red garnet and offers plenty of smoky-medicinal-iodine notes, charred wood, resinous herbs, and other decidedly non-fruity aromatics, On the palate, meanwhile, I like the fluid nature, the relatively light and dusty tannins, the comfortably balanced acids. I'd describe it as more of a table-friendly wine with some edginess, best served alongside salty protein off of the grill. Tasted April 2025.
